WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Williams on Saturday afternoon at Chapin Rink.
Williams (3-2-1, NESCAC 2-1-1) got off to a quick start by scoring its first goal just 2:26 into the contest. Peter Christie sent a drive from the left point that made its way past junior netminder Connor Rodericks (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) after receiving a pass from Will Somers. The otherwise relatively quiet first period only featured one penalty late in the frame, and the teams went into the first intermission with the Ephs ahead by a goal.
Despite failing to finish on a 5-on-3 opportunity in the middle stages of the second period, the Camels were still able to knot the score before the next break in the action when junior Ryan Petti (Tewksbury, Mass.) crashed the net after an initial shot by sophomore Paul Capozzi (Lake Forest, Ill.) clanked off the crossbar. Freshman Colin Stevens (Concord, N.H.) was also credited with an assist on the play.
The teams traded goals in the third period, beginning at the 10:44 when Nick Altman deflected a pass from Tyler Scott to help the Ephs regain the lead. The Camels, however, answered right back with their second power play goal of the contest when junior Jacob Moreau (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec) was able to slip the puck over the shoulder of Cosimo Lazzarino with under four minutes remaining in regulation. Nothing was decided the rest of the way, and the teams settled for the 2-2 tie.
Lazzarino turned away 28 shots for Williams, while Rodericks made 25 saves for the Camels.
Connecticut College (1-4-1, NESCAC 0-3-1) concludes a four-game road trip when it visits Salem State on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
