NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's rowing team raced against Coast Guard for the Tuneski Trophy on the Thames River to begin its spring campaign on Tuesday afternoon.
Guided by junior coxswain Hulan Bikales (Falmouth, Maine), the first varsity eight covered the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6:57.1 and finished a minute behind the top Coast Guard boat. The group also included senior captain Daniel Ross (Westport, Conn.), classmate Patrick Davis (Lynnfield, Mass.), Ben Meyer (Andover, Mass.), Jack Walsh (Boxborough, Mass.), Caleb Chiesa (Manchester, N.H.), Oscar Uribe (New York, N.Y.), Tucker Alissi (West Hartford, Conn.), and Laurence Redpath (Weston, Conn.).
The Camels' second varsity eight, which was paced by coxswain Olivia Goodwin-Cook (Rockport, Maine), finished third in its race behind two Coast Guard boats in 9:05.1. The Bears' top group registered a time of 7:25.3.
Connecticut College will next trek to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. to compete against WPI, Bates, Hamilton and Marist on Sunday, Apr. 7.
