NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomore midfielder Daniel O'Grady (New York, N.Y.) scored in the 32nd minute to lift the Middlebury College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Connecticut College today.
The Panthers improved to a 2-0 (1-0 NESCAC) with the win while the Camels even their mark at 1-1 (0-1 NESCAC) with the setback.
Senior Greg Sydor (Madison, Conn.) made six saves to earn the victory in goal for the visitors while Mark Cameron (Bethesda, Md.) had six stops for the hosts.
O'Grady was able to break free in a sprint down the left side that pulled Cameron off of his line and the midfielder knocked in the low shot with 13:10 remaining in the first half. But the Camels nearly tied the game with 8:40 to go when senior Pat Devlin (Washington Crossing, Pa.) made a terrific effort to convert with a bicycle kick from the six yard line but Sydor was able to make the save for the Panthers.
Ben Manoogian (Peabody, Mass.) had another terrific scoring bid for the hosts in the 68th minute but Sydor was able to make a stop from point blank range and the Panthers were able to hang on for the 1-0 win.
