NEW LONDON, Conn. – The No. 5 Connecticut College men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat Rhode Island College, 2-0, in its final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday afternoon at Harkness Field.
After a scoreless first half which saw the Camels hold a 7-2 advantage in total shots, the hosts struck twice in a matter of minutes during the second frame. Senior Uzii Dieng (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made it 1-0 in the 67th minute on a second-chance opportunity, as his first blast was stopped on the goal line by an Anchorman defender. The forward, however, won the ball again through a scramble and fired it home to put the Camels ahead.
Just 5:30 later, Connecticut College doubled its lead to put the match out of reach. Junior Freddy Stokes (Westhampton, Mass.) sent a cross in from the right side that found MT Tshuma (Magwegwe, Zimbabwe), and the freshman was able to finish and provide insurance for the Camels to win their 11th match of the season and remain undefeated.
Sophomores AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.) and Chris MacKay (Redding, Conn.) teamed up for the shutout. Marcucci made two saves in more than 76 minutes of action, and MacKay turned away one shot in a reserve role. Charlie Tashjian of Rhode Island College (3-8-2) suffered the loss after making five stops.
Connecticut College (11-0-2) will next visit Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m.
