MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's squash team swept three opponents over the weekend and improved their winning streak to four matches. The Camels defeated Lehigh, 8-0, at home on Saturday before earning 9-0 victories over Fordham and NYU a day later at Wesleyan.
Senior Scott Brown (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman Tommy Whittemore (West Hartford, Conn.) led the way for the Camels by registering a 3-0 record and not dropping a set. Brown defeated his opponent from Lehigh from the No. 2 spot by set scores of 11-7, 11-1, and 11-2 before taking down Fordham and NYU opponents from the No. 5 position a day later. Whittemore, meanwhile, won by set scores of 11-9, 11-6, and 17-15 from the No. 5 spot against Lehigh and made quicker work of his competition at No. 8 a day later.
The Camels also had four additional players post a 3-0 record, while Freshmen MD Jawad (New Haven, Conn.) and Billy Fleurima (Bronx, N.Y.) went unbeaten from the top two positions on Sunday. Jawad most notably won a marathon match in comeback fashion against his opponent from Fordham by marks of 11-3, 6-11, 10-12, 11-5, and 11-8.
Connecticut College (8-9) will carry a wave of momentum into next weekend when it competes at CSA Nationals. Opponents and times are to be determined at a later date.
