NEW LONDON, Conn. – Headlined by freshman Guillermo Garcia-Rincon and senior Will Cannon (Fairfield, Conn.), four members of the men's tennis team went undefeated in singles and doubles action at a weekend tournament co-hosted by Connecticut College and Coast Guard.
Garcia-Rincon and Cannon teamed up to win the top doubles bracket. They first defeated Rahul Das and Levi Shlyankevich of NYU, 8-6, before earning an 8-5 win over Roger Williams' Dan Tocco and Nick Spoor.
In addition, Garcia-Rincon won both of his matches at the No. 1 singles position by rallying from behind to defeat Vishal Walia of NYU in three sets and Coast Guard's Thomas Hackett, 6-1 and 6-3. Cannon, meanwhile, cruised to straight set victories over Kyler Fager of Coast Guard and Yanick Parsch of NYU.
Furthermore, sophomores Walter Komishane (Manchester, Mass.) and Zak Danz (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) each went 4-0 in their singles and doubles matches. Komishane paired up with senior Johnny Cisell (Amherst, N.H.) to capture No. 3 doubles while also taking down opponents from Roger Williams and Coast Guard at No. 5 singles. Danz and classmate Brandon Ameglio (South Portland, Maine) earned identical 8-1 wins at No. 4 doubles, and Danz took down opponents from NYU and Coast Guard from the No. 6 singles spot.
