INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Connecticut College men's distance standouts Scott Mason (Wyndmoor, Pa.) and Danny Aschale (Cambridge, Mass.) have been selected to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as announced by the national organization earlier today.
Mason will look to become an All-American in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second straight season after finishing sixth in the event at the NCAA Championships last spring. He currently ranks fourth nationally for punching in a time of 9:04.06 at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Apr. 20 and also won the event at the NESCAC Championships on Apr. 28. The junior has also competed at two other NCAA events during the academic year, as he garnered All-America accolades for placing 22nd at the cross country championships during the fall and placed 11th in the 3,000 at the national indoor meet this past winter.
Aschale is competing at the NCAA's annual outdoor meet for the first time and will be making his second overall appearance after previously qualifying in the 5,000 during the indoor season. He registered a personal-best time of 14:31.33 at the New England Championships on May 11 and is seeded 16th in the event heading into the weekend.
The championship meet will take place at Roger Herring Stadium in La Crosse, Wisconsin from May 24-26. Mason will be the first Connecticut College student-athlete to compete when he runs in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 5:30 p.m. EST (4:30 p.m. CST) on Thursday.
