ERIE, Pa. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team fell to Mercyhurst by a 13-7 score in the opening match of the Mid-Atlantic West Region Championships for both programs on Saturday afternoon.
Mercyhurst never trailed in the contest and most notably scored four unanswered in the early going to take a 5-1 lead before the midway point of the second quarter. A six-goal outburst during the second frame helped give the Lakers a commanding 9-3 advantage, and the Camels would not be able to come any closer the rest of the way.
Freshman Mike Gertsik (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Connecticut College with five goals. On the other end, sophomore Tanner Michaelis (Ramona, Calif.) and freshman Danny Meisel (Santa Cruz, Calif.) combined to make nine saves in the setback.
Connecticut College (4-19) will wrap competing at the weekend tournament tomorrow when they face Monmouth at 9 a.m. and Washington & Jefferson at noon.
