WORCESTER, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's rowing team competed against a strong field which featured two of the nation's top ranked teams for the Barbara Donahue Cup over the weekend.
Led by sophomore coxswain Clara Goldiner (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the third varsity eight posted the highest finish of the day by placing third in 9:18.94 behind boats from Williams and WPI. Senior captain Joyce Welch (Cranston, R.I.) and the varsity eight covered the 2,000-meter course in 7:59.01 to finish fourth among five programs, while the second varsity eight being guided by Kelley Frumer (Bowdoinham, Maine) punched in a fourth-place time of 8:47.50.
Williams, ranked third nationally, won four of the races, while second-ranked WPI captured the varsity eight race to win the Barbara Donahue Cup and deny the Ephs their 15th consecutive title at the annual event. Simmons and Rochester also competed at the five-team event.
Connecticut College will next compete at an eight-team regatta at Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, Apr. 20.
