BRISTOL, R.I. – Freshmen Mya Johnson and Hannah Boldt (North Kingstown, R.I.) combined for three goals in their first match as collegians to help propel the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 3-1 season-opening victory over Roger Williams on Wednesday evening.
Johnson found the back of the net twice in the first half, and Boldt added an insurance marker off a direct kick taken by sophomore Marielle McEnaney (Orleans, Mass.) from the right corner in the opening minutes of the second frame.
Junior Katy Pelletier (Topsfield, Mass.) made two saves to pick up the victory between the posts and only surrendered a goal which came off a penalty kick taken by Ariana Delli Caprini in the 49th minute. Roger Williams' Morgan McCutcheaon stopped 11 shots in the losing effort.
Connecticut College (1-0), which outshot the Hawks by a lopsided 29-4 margin, next visits Colby to open its NESCAC schedule on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
