WATERVILLE, Maine – Junior Kat Norton (Hampton, Conn.) scored twice in the second half as the Connecticut College women's soccer team rallied from behind to register a 2-1 road victory over Colby in the NESCAC opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon.
Even though the Camels outshot the Mules by a lopsided 19-3 margin overall and 12-0 in the second half, they had nothing to show for it in the early going. Colby found a way to strike first when Olivia Greif found the back of the net off a corner in the 10th minute of action.
Despite falling behind, Connecticut College finally broke through when Norton tallied her first marker of the season on a rebound off of Colby goalie Shannon Gray in the 75th minute. The junior then added her second goal of the match just 6:56 later by scoring on a rebound attempt that first banged off the crossbar, allowing the team to stay unbeaten against Colby in its last seven meetings between the schools.
Junior Katy Pelletier (Topsfield, Mass.) picked up the victory for the Camels by only having to make one save. Shannon Gray of Colby redirected seven shots in the second while being charged with the loss.
Connecticut College (2-0, NESCAC 1-0) will next face Johnson & Wales in its home opener on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
