POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's squash team defeated Vassar by a 5-4 decision on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Camels ended the weekend having won three straight and four of their last five matches.
A strong performance by Denise Bonilla (New Haven, Conn.) from the No. 4 position proved to be the difference. With the teams deadlocked at 4-4, the freshman came through in the high-pressure situation by defeating her opponent by set scores of 11-7, 7-11, 11-3 and 11-6.
Senior Elizabeth Varoli (Katonah, N.Y.), junior Jacqueline Chu (New York, N.Y.), sophomore Phoebe Pilakas (Conway, Mass.) and freshman Noelle Giuliano (McLean, Va.) also won their matches to help the Camels conclude the weekend tournament with a 3-0 record.
Connecticut College (7-8) will next trek to Hamilton to compete at the NESCAC Championships. The three-day event begins on Friday, Feb. 2.
