Camels Top Wesleyan & Fairfield: Fergus Posts Wins in 50 & 100 Yard Backstroke for Camels

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—Sophomore Danielle Fergus (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) posted victories in the 50 and 100 yard backstroke to lead Connecticut College to victories against Wesleyan and Fairfield University in Middletown Friday night.

Fergus clocked out with a time of 28.05 seconds in the 50 yard back and posted a time of 59.24 seconds to win the 100 yard backstroke. Connecticut College secured a 205.5-88.5 win against Wesleyan University while also knocking off the Staggs of Fairfield in a 215-72 victory. 

Lily Gribbel (Pleasanton, Calif.) checked in with victories in both the 50 yard freestyle and the 50 yard butterfly with respective finishes in 24.20 and 25.95 seconds.  Mary Erb (Readfield, Main) continued to build on her successful rookie campaign, posting victories in both the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke with times of 30.07 seconds and 1:06.13.  Anna Peterson (Winnetka, Ill.) posted a winning time of 59.14 seconds in the 100 yard butterfly for the Camels.

In the 200 yard freestyle, sophomore All-American Olivia Haskell (Norwalk, Conn.) contributed a victory in 1:55.20. Senior All-American Valerie Urban (Lancaster, Pa.) won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:07.29 for the Camels. Sophomore Catherine Rodgers (Montclair, N.J.) posted a victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:56.12. 

Julia Klier (Cohasset, Mass.) won the 100 yard freestyle in 53.66 seconds for the Camels.  In the 400 yard individual medley, Anuschka Sambel (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) posted a victory in the 4:42.59 for Connecticut College.

The Camels won both relays Friday. Sophomore Maeve Wilber (New Marlborough, Mass.), Erb, Gribbel and Haskell joined forces to win the 200 yard medley relay in 1:47.34. 

Haskell, junior All-American Shannon Cry (Monterey, Calif.), Juliette Lee (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) and junior All-American Charlotte Nixon (Rye, N.Y.) won the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:39.13 for Connecticut College.
