WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Brooke Scully (Winchester, Mass.) was among four Camels to triumph in singles and doubles action as the Connecticut College women's tennis team won its first dual match of the season by a 6-1 decision over Holy Cross on Wednesday.
Playing under Division I rules with the Crusaders hosting, Connecticut College swept doubles action and never looked back. Scully and junior Meredith Kenny (Scottsdale, Ariz.) teamed up at the top spot, winning 7-5, while senior Stephanie Simon (Wellesley, Mass.) and sophomore Alexis Tsang (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) earned a 6-3 win at No. 2. Sophomore Allison Falvey (Wakefield, Mass.) and senior Alexanda Waldman (East Hampton, N.Y.) blanked their opponents at the No. 3 position to set the tone for the remainder of the match.
In singles action, Simon most notably rallied from behind to win a three-set marathon at the No. 2 position by set scores of 2-6, 6-2, and 10-6. Scully prevailed in two sets at No. 3, 6-4 and 6-2, and Tsang dominated from the fourth spot by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Falvey defeated her opponent in straight sets at the No. 5 spot by identical 6-1 decisions, while Kenny posted an impressive win at No. 6 by scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Connecticut College (1-0) will face its second straight Division I opponent when it visits Merrimack on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.
