WASHINGTON, Pa. – Sophomores Stephania Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) and Brooklynn Hayes (Granville, Mass.) combined to score 14 goals as the Connecticut College women's water polo team swept a pair of games at a weekend tournament being hosted by Washington & Jefferson on Saturday. The Camels first rallied to earn a 16-15 victory over Penn State Behrend before triumphing by an 8-6 decision against the host Presidents later in the day.

Despite trailing by two and three goals for most of the second half, the Camels were able to come back and complete a furious rally in the fourth quarter to win their season opener over the Nittany Lions. Down 15-11 with 5:22 left, Lopez scored three times in less than three minutes to bring the Camels within one. Freshman Marissa Moreno (San Diego, Calif.) then tied the match at 15s with 1:36 remaining, and Hayes netted the deciding tally just seconds later after the ensuing swim off.
Lopez finished the game with six goals, five assists and four steals to lead the way for the Camels. Hayes added five goals, while Moreno added a hat trick in her collegiate debut. Defensively, junior Kaitlin Reagan (Saratoga, Calif.) contributed five field blocks and classmate Ginny McCool (Delray Beach, Fla.) had four steals.

Connecticut College rode the wave of momentum into its second game and never trailed against the Presidents. Reagan scored twice and Hayes also found the back of the net to give the Camels a 3-0 advantage at the end of the quarter. Washington & Jefferson attempted to rally and came within one when Chloe Magyari scored with 5:46 remaining in regulation, but Lopez answered at 2:43 to ultimately put the game out of reach.
Reagan filled the stat sheet by providing three goals, one assist, two steals and two field blocks for the Camels. McCool added seven blocks, while Moreno tallied three assists and three steals.
Connecticut College (2-0) will wrap up tournament play with a pair of games tomorrow on the campus of Washington & Jefferson. The Camels will face Grove City at 8 a.m. and Utica at 1:45 p.m.
