NEW LONDON, Conn.--Abby Runyon (Fairport, N.Y.) scored a power play goal in the second period to lead the Hamilton College women's hockey team to a 3-0 win at Connecticut College Friday night.
With their fourth consecutive win, the Continentals improve their record to 4-1 (2-1 NESCAC). The Camels slip to 1-2-1 with a 0-2-1 record in the conference standings.
Hannah Bartlett (Marshfield, Mass.) and Katie Zimmerman (Plymouth, Mich.) chipped in with third period scores for the visitors.
Becca Hazlett (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) stopped 25 shots en route to the blanking. Connecticut College senior Amy Leichliter (West Chester, Pa.) made 23 saves in a solid start for the Camels.
Connecticut College was 7-for-8 on its penalty kill and received solid contributions and blocked shots from Amanda Bogue (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Molly Murphy (Woodstock, Conn.).
But with 12:04 remaining in the middle period, Runyon unloaded for her goal from the point that proved to be the difference.
The visitors added some insurance with 11:29 remaining in regulation when Stephanie Lang (Ann Arbor, Mich.) assisted Bartlett for a goal in the slot area.
The Camels emptied their net and had opportunities in the closing moments but the visitors prevailed with the 3-0 win.
Hamilton held a slim 26-to-25 advantage in shots.
The two teams meet again here tomorrow for a 3:00 p.m. game.
