Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.—Roger Williams University erased a 14-0 deficit and went on to defeat Connecticut College 68-62 in a non-conference game played at Luce Field House Tuesday.
The Hawks improve their record to 5-4 with the win, while the Camels even their mark at 5-5.
Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the visitors. Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa) finished with 16 points while first year guard Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) reached double-figures with 10.
Connecticut College junior Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) recorded game-highs with 20 points and 15 rebounds en route to a double-double. Freshman guard Kayleen Murray (Litchfield, Conn.) scored nine points for the Camels and Jocelyn Summers (Highland Park, N.J.) contributed seven points for the hosts.
Connecticut College stormed out to an early 14-0 lead when senior Annie Fierberg (Watertown, Conn.) knocked down a 14 footer with 13:11 remaining. But the Hawks responded with a 22-to-9 run of their own to pull to within a point. Alex Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) took a nifty looking feed from Courtney Yost (Halifax, Mass.) for a bucket with 3:08 remaining and Bovee followed with a pair of free throws to make it a 23-22 contest with 2:46 remaining.
The Camels responded though, and fueled by a pair of field goals from Caitlin Cimino (Falmouth, Maine), the hosts reeled off a 7-0 run to end the half, carrying a 30-22 lead into the break.
In the second stanza, Bovee and Kilzi accounted for 27 points. The visitors took the lead for good with 10:13 remaining on a basket by Ariola. Lanieri made it a 56-46 contest with a hoop at the 6:18 mark. With 26 seconds left, Gabelman pulled the Camels to within 65-60 with a hoop but the Hawks were able to hold on for the 68-62 triumph.
Both teams will break for the exam period. Roger Williams will visit Rhode Island College January 3 for a 5:30 p.m. game in Providence, R.I. The Camels will host Tufts University on New Year's Eve Day in New London for a 2:00 p.m. game.
