Box Score TAMPA, Fla.--Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) scored 43 points and buried nine threes, both were school records, and the Connecticut College Camels vanquished Westminster College 79-69 in the third place game of the Tampa Bay Shootout held at the Tampa Preparatory School Sunday.
The Camels improve their record to 5-6 with the win, while the Titans fall to 4-7 with the setback.
Vadas was 12-for-19 from the field, 9-for-13 from long distance and 10-for-11 from the charity stripe. He ripped down nine rebounds and added a pair of steals.
Tyrone Turner (New York, N.Y.) and Mason Lopez (Hoboken, N.J.) scored eight points each. Turner hauled in five boards and was 4-for-6 from the field while Lopez was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Jared Shill (Woodcliff Lakes, N.J.) dished out six assists and had six rebounds and three points for the winning side. Bo McKinley (Westport, N.Y.) netted six points in the triumph.
Austin Brown (Katonah, N.Y.) chipped in with five rebounds, providing seven quality minutes of action off the bench for the Camels.
"We bounced back nicely today," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "Matt played a big time game obviously but we got a lot of contributions, particularly from Austin that helped us win."
Junior guard Anthony Thomas (New Castle, Pa.) poured in a team-high 23 points for Westminster. Senior Doug Smith (South Park, Pa.) chipped in with 21 points and eight rebounds for the Titans. Paul Carswell (Painesville, Ohio) finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team for the Titans.
The Camels held a 44-to-39 advantage on the backboards
DePauw University defeated LaGrange College 83-63 to win the shootout Sunday.
Sophomore guard Connor Rich (Tipton, Ind.) was named the Tournament MVP and was joined by teammate Barry Flynn (Indianapolis, Ind.) on the All-Tournament team. Denzel Robinson (Columbus, Ga.) represented LaGrange on the All-Tournament Team.
Connecticut College will host Trinity College this Friday night for a 6:00 p.m. game at Luce Field House
