Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Graduate student Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 18 points to lead the 10th ranked Jumbos of Tufts University to a convincing 69-37 victory at Connecticut College Monday.
Tufts has stormed out to a perfect 10-0 start. The Camels are 5-6 through the first two months of the season.
Barnosky was 6-for-9 from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from long distance and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Junior Liz Moynihan (Storrs, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points in a 4-for-6 shooting performance. Hayley Kanner (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Caitlin McClure (Arlington, Va.) both had eight points for the winning side.
Connecticut College first year guard Kayleen Murray (Litchfield, Conn.) finished with a team-best 11 points and had four rebounds in the setback. Jocelyn Summers (Highland Park, N.J.) netted five points to go along with two assists.
The Jumbos had their perimeter game clicking early. The visitors shot 75% (6-for-8) from long distance in the first stanza to race out to a 37-16 advantage.
McClure buried a three-ball from the left side with 14:11 remaining in the opening half to put the Jumbos on top 11-2. Later on in the first stanza, Moynihan knocked down a triple from the left side to make it a 20-4 game with 11:39 to go.
Bre DuFault (Hampden, Mass.) made it a 25-5 game when she induced a turnover and drove to the hoop for a deuce in transition.
Summers made it a 34-16 game when she converted a field goal for the Camels with 20 seconds left. But Barnosky beat the buzzer with another Tufts triple to put the Jumbos in complete control with a 37-16 advantage at the break.
Kanner sparked the visitors on a 6-0 run to start the second stanza and the Jumbos continued to pull away for the 69-37 victory.
Tufts held a 39-to-32 advantage on the boards. The Camels converted at a 70% clip from the foul line, finishing 14-for-20 in the contest.
Tufts will visit Clark University Wednesday night for a 6:00 p.m. game in Worcester, Mass.
The Camels will open NESCAC play this Friday night when they clash with intra-state rival Trinity College for an 8:00 p.m. game at Luce Field House.
