Box Score MEDFORD - (Tufts University Sports Information) The #6 Tufts University Jumbos remained perfect with a 61-32 triumph over the Connecticut College Camels in NESCAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Cousens Gym.
The Jumbos are 18-0 overall and 6-0 in the NESCAC. The Camels drop to 7-10 (2-4).
Tufts led by 12 at halftime, 29-17, behind six points each from sophomores Hannah Foley (Acton, Mass.) and Hayley Kanner (Scarsdale, N.Y.). The Jumbos only shot 32.4 percent (11/14) in the first half, but they held the Camels to 33.3 percent (6/18).
Sophomore Jocelyn Summers (Highland Park, N.J.) netted seven points for Connecticut College in the first stanza. The Camels were 5 for 5 at the charity stripe while the Jumbos were just 5 of 12.
The Jumbo defense held the Camels to just 15 points in the second half. The largest Tufts advantage was 31 at 61-30 with 3:43 to play. The Camels never led and the only tie was at 2-2.
Kanner finished with a game-high 17 points in 21 minutes of action. She was 6 of 13 from the field with two blocks and three steals. Graduate student Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and junior Liz Moynihan (Storrs, Conn.) added nine points each. Sophomore Kelsey Morehead (Foster City, Calif.) dished out five assists.
Junior Aly Boyle (Westford, Mass.) led the Camels with 11 points on 2 for 3 shooting, but she was 7 for 8 at the free throw line. Junior Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) had six points and six rebounds. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cresencia (New Providence, N.J.) had a game-high nine rebounds.
Overall the Jumbos shot 37.1 percent (23/62) while the Camels were 29.4 percent (10/34) from the field. Tufts had just six turnovers and forced 25 Connecticut College miscues.
The Jumbos play a non-league game on Wednesday at Emmanuel at 7 pm. Connecticut College is at Rhode Island College on Thursday at 7:30.
