Amherst carried a 19-18 lead into the intermission. But in the second stanza, Gabelman knocked down a jumper with 5:32 to go to put the hosts on top 42-36. However, Hardy provided the visitors with momentum when she banked in a three-pointer from the right side as she was being fouled with 3:38 remaining that allowed her to complete the rare four point play. On the next Amherst possession, Hardy put in a layup that put the visitors on top for good with 44-43 advantage and 3:29 to play.
After Voigt added a pair of freebies to make it a 46-43 game, Smith knocked down a jumper for the Camels that cut the lead to one with 2:05 remaining. Amherst used a hoop from Voigt to push the lead back to 48-45 and the Camels turned the ball over on their next two possessions.
Voigt added some insurance with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to make it a 50-45 score. Aly Boyle (Westford, Mass.) buried a three on the Camels' last possession but the comeback fell just short and Amherst was able to escape with the 50-48 win.
The Camels held a 39-to-31 advantage on the backboards. Amherst won the turnover battle, inducing 23 miscues while committing just 17.
