NEW LONDON, Conn.--Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) poured in 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 7-for-10 shooting performance to lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 66-50 victory against previously unbeaten Western Connecticut State University at Luce Field House Tuesday night.

The Camels improve their record to 3-2 with their second consecutive triumph while the Colonials fall to 4-1 with the setback. 

Willa McKinley (Westport, N.Y.) carried the hot hand off of the Camel bench as the sophomore sharp-shooter netted 15 points for the hosts, knocking down 6-of-8 shots from the field. Liz Malman (Mendham, N.J.) and Carlee Smith (Willimantic, Conn.) scored 12 points each. Malman was 3-for-5 from long distance and had four assists and three steals while Smith dished out five assists for the winning side.

The Camels shot 48% from the field (26-for-54) while the visitors converted at a 33% clip (15-for-45). 

"I could not be more pleased with our effort and execution tonight against a very good Western Connecticut State squad," Connecticut College Head Women's Basketball Coach Brian Wilson said.  "We have talked a lot about being relentless and not relaxing with leads through our first four games and it was nice to be able to put together such a complete 40 minute performance. We played each possession with the focus and sense of urgency that we know we are capable of attaining but had struggled to reach consistently earlier in the year.  We received contributions from our entire roster - it was a true team victory."

Colleen Cosker (East Hartford, Conn.) scored nine points and handed out six assists to lead the visiting Colonials.  Sciarra Brandt (Thomaston, Conn.), Alyssa Eannotti (Shelton, Conn.) and Caroline Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) all finished with eight points for Western Connecticut.

Malman and McKinley netted nine points apiece to help vault the Camels out to a 38-25 advantage at the break. 

The Camels pushed the lead to 42-27 early in the second stanza when Malman induced a Colonial turnover and delivered a baseball-full court pass to Gabelman for an easy transition basket. Moments later, Malman dialed up a three ball from the left side that extended the Camel advantage to 45-29 with 17:31 to go.

Later on in the half, the Camels put together a 15-to-1 run over a span of 6:17 to break the game wide open. McKinley capped the rally with 7:28 remaining, burying another three-ball to make it a 64-38 game.

The Camels were able to hold on for the 66-50 triumph.
