Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College women's basketball team closed out the 2012-2013 season with a thrilling 61-58 victory in overtime against Colby College in a game that was moved to Cousens Gymnasium at Tufts University Wednesday night.

The Camels snap a six-game losing streak in the longstanding rivalry, closing out the year with a 10-13 record and a 4-6 mark in the NESCAC. The Mules finish up with an 8-16 record and are 1-9 in league action.

"I am really proud of our team's effort tonight, defeating a talented Colby squad," Head Coach Brian Wilson said. "We are disappointed that we did not make the tournament but we finished tied for fourth place with a 4-6 record in a great basketball conference."

Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) poured in 14 points and hauled in nine rebounds in a 6-for-11 shooting performance to lead the Camels. Aly Boyle (Westford, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Cresencia (New Providence, N.J.) both finished with 11 points and seven rebounds for the winning side. Boyle corralled five offensive boards while Cresencia carried the hot-hand in a 5-for-6 shooting night.

Sophomore Carlee Smith (Willimantic, Conn.) contributed with nine points, six assists and four rebounds from the point.

Colby College senior guard Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) poured in a game-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds, five assists and five steals in her final game for the Mules.

Junior guard Gabe Donahue (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) chipped in with nine points and five rebounds for Colby. Carlyanne Wolfington (Hallowell, Maine) and Jen Nale (Belgrade, Maine) scored seven points each in the setback.

Nale buried a triple from the baseline with 1:03 remaining in the first half to vault the Mules out to a 23-20 advantage at the intermission.

In the opening moments of the second stanza with 17:31 remaining, Brooke Chandor (Barrington, Ill.) buried another triple for the Mules from the top of the key that pushed Colby's advantage to 28-21.

But the Camels stormed back, using a 7-0 run to take a six point lead. Gabelman ignited the Camels with two jumpers during the stretch while senior Kacie Quick (Winchester, Mass.) netted a clutch trey and Connecticut College held a 47-41 edge with 7:38 remaining.

However, Colby was not done and when Donahue converted a lay up with 1:21 left, the teams were tied at 53. Cresencia banked in a hoop in the paint with 12 seconds left to put the Camels back on top 55-53. But Manduca was not finished and her turnaround caromed off the glass and in with three second left to force the extra session.

The Camels took the lead for good in overtime when Smith assisted Boyle for a 15-footer with 3:19 to go. Then, with 2:56 to play, Cresencia made it a 59-55 game with a put back on the offensive glass.  Gabelman tacked on a pair of free throws with 1:51 left to push the lead to six. Manduca drained a three with 46 seconds left to make it a one-possession game but the Camels were able to hold on for the 61-58 triumph.
