DANBURY, Conn. – Senior Caroline Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) led the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team with 16 points as the Colonials held off a late comeback bid from visiting Connecticut College to claim a 56-51 victory over the Camels Tuesday evening at Feldman Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for Western were sophomore Colleen Cosker (East Hartford, Conn.) with 12 points and sophomore Emily Dobson (Westerly, R.I.) with 10 points.  Sophomore Alyssa Eannotti (Shelton, Conn.) led the Colonials on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds.

For Connecticut College, freshman Mairead Hynes (Mahopac, N.Y.) led all scorers with 24 points, while also grabbing six rebounds for the Camels. Sophomore Liz Malman (Mendham, N.J.) finished with eight points and four rebounds in the setback. Jenna Lovett (Tolland, Conn.) contributed with six points and eight rebounds for Connecticut College

Western got off to a fast start, taking a 5-0 lead on a three by Cosker and layup by junior Kerri Stolle (Warren, Conn.).  Connecticut College narrowed the gap to 7-4 at the 16:39 mark, but a 7-3 run by the Colonials expanded the lead to 14-7 with 13 minutes to play in the half.

With just over six minutes remaining, Connecticut College again closed to within three, 16-13, but another 5-0 run by Western moved the score to 21-13.

Two free throws by Cosker and layup by Brasa closed out the first half scoring and gave Western a 27-18 lead going into the locker room at intermission.

Western got off to another fast start in the second half with an 8-1 run to take a 35-19 lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Connecticut College then went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 10 points, but a Cosker 3-pointer put Western up by 13, 40-27.

The Camels continued to chip away at the Western lead with a five-point run, and closed the margin to 42-36 with eight minutes remaining on a Hynes jumper.

With three minutes left, Brasa pushed the Western advantage back to 10 points with a three, but a minute later, Connecticut College was back to within four points after a Hynes free throw.

After a pair of Brasa free throws gave Western a six-point lead, Hynes again closed the gap to four points on a layup with 30 seconds remaining.

Free throws by Brasa and Stolle in the final seconds closed out the scoring and gave Western a 56-51 victory.

For the game, Connecticut College held a 43-35 advantage in rebounds, while Western had a 14-11 edge in assists.  Western finished shooting 38.0% from the floor and 70.6% from the line, while Connecticut College hit 31.1% and 63.2%, respectively.

With the win, Western improves to 4-1 on the season, while Connecticut College falls to 3-1.
