Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Milton Rico (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored the only goal of the day in the fifth minute of action to lead the 13th ranked Amherst College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Connecticut College Wednesday.

Bubba Van Wie (New Gloucester, Maine) assisted on the score with a long throw in that led Rico into a one-on-one situation in the box.

Thomas Bull (Montgomery, N.J.) recorded six saves in the shutout for the Lord Jeffs. Austin DaCunha (Brookfield, Conn.) made nine stops in the setback for the Camels.

The visitors nearly extended their lead with 28:50 remaining in the opening half. Jae Heo (Changwon, South Korea) unloaded with a blast from 10 yards out but DaCunha was able to dive to the post to make the save.

Later on with 1:30 remaining in the half, Amherst was on the doorstep once again. Christopher Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) took a feed from Douglass Jamison (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) and was in alone with DaCunha but the rookie net-minder was able to make the terrific stop to keep things close in a one-goal contest at the break.

The Camels had their opportunities in the second stanza to pull even. Executing on a set piece, Zach Punt (West Hartford, Conn.) took a pass from Kevin O'Brien (Wellesley, Mass.) and lofted a high arching shot but Bull was able to make the saves.

Then, with 3:50 to play, Matthew Bitchell (Byfield, Mass.) fired a low shot that was saved by Bull.

But the Lord Jeffs were able to clear the ball away and hold on for the one-goal victory.
