Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Senior forward John Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y.) scored in the 60th minute to lead the Coast Guard to a 1-0 victory against Connecticut College in the 37th meeting of these Whaling City Rivals played on Tempel Green Tuesday.
The Bears, ranked #5 in the latest NSCAA New England Ranking released today, improve to 8-0. All eight of their wins have been decided by a single score.
The Camels fall to 3-3. Connecticut College leads the all-time series 24-11-2. The victory snaps a three-game winning streak for the Camels in the long-standing rivalry.
Tarzian, the reigning NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week, took a lead pass from Alex Lane (Shorewood, Wis.) and chipped it over the top of Connecticut College keeper Austin DaCunha (Brookfield, Conn), who had to come out and cut down the angle in the 1-on-1 situation.
Richie Burns (Long Beach, Calif.) collected all three of his saves in the second half en route to the shutout win for the visitors. DaCunha made three saves for the Camels.
The Camels had their chances in the second half. Connecticut College held an 8-to-1 edge in corners in the stanza and out-shot the Bears 13-to-8 in the game.
Matthew Bitchell (Byfield, Mass.) had a great chance with 24:55 remaining when he unloaded with a low blast from the center of the box but Burns was able to make a diving save.
While the Bears allowed the Camels to penetrate the 18, they covered the six yard area in front of Burns effectively on the set pieces.
Coast Guard will visit Clark University Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game in Worcester, Mass. The Camels will host Williams Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. game in New London.
