Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College hosted the Coaches Versus Cancer Tip-Off in Luce Field House this weekend.

In Saturday's Championship game, the Mount Ida College Mustangs (3-1) defeated FDU-Florham (1-2), 67-66.

The Newbury College Nighthawks (1-3) edged the Camels from Connecticut College in an 82-80 decision.

Patrick McKearney (Avon, Conn.) poured in a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Mustangs to the title.  McKearney was 7-for-13 from the field and 4-for-5 at the foul line.  John Oliver (North Babylon, N.Y.) chipped in with 15 points for the winning side.

Sophomore Steve Herdman (South Amboy, N.Y.) dumped in 16 points to lead the Devils from FDU-Florham in the loss. Jayson Hughes (Apopka, Fla.) had 14 points in the setback.

In the early game, Kenny Ramos (Roxbury, N.Y.) and Jeduan Langston (Boston, Mass.) scored 21 points each to lead Newbury in their two point win. Ramos finished with 13 rebounds while Langston finished with seven.

Connecticut College sophomore Lee Messier (pictured, Narragansett, R.I. ) exploded with a game-high 27 points, adding four rebounds and two assists for the Camels. Senior point-guard Bo McKinley (Westport, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points and seven assists.  Daniel Janel (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) had a nice game in the post for the Camels, scoring 10 points and hauling in eight rebounds in a 5-for-6 shooting performance.

"For whatever reason we are a little off from the foul line so far," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "Much more importantly, we have to value each offensive and defensive possession and demonstrate an understanding of what we are trying to accomplish at each end."

McKearney and Oliver represented Mount Ida on the All-Tournament Team. Hughes represented the Devils from FDU-Florham. Connecticut College's sophomore sharp-shooter Lee Messier and Newbury's Kenny Ramos rounded out the All-Tournament Team selections.
