STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.--(Photo of Zuri Pavlin Courtesy of David Pizzuto) SUNY-Canton defeated Connecticut College, 85-82, in the first round of the Tournament of Heroes at the College of Staten Island Tuesday.

The undefeated Roos (9-0) advance to Wednesday's championship game and will meet host CSI with a 7:30 p.m. tip. The Camels (5-3) will take on a familiar foe in Westminster College of Pennsylvania in the third place game at 5:30 p.m.

Back on December 30, 2012, Matt Vadas '13 set the Camels' single season scoring mark against Westminster with a 43-point outburst in a 78-69 victory against the Titans at the Tampa Bay Shootout.

Junior Zuri Pavlin (New York, N.Y.) exploded with a team-high 26 points and seven rebounds in the loss to the Roos, shooting a scorching 11-of-14 from the field.  David Labossiere (Stoneham, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.  Daniel Janel (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) and Isaiah Robinson (Lynn, Mass.) both reached double-figures with 10 points apiece.

"Certainly we are disappointed in the outcome but give Canton credit," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "They made some great plays to get us down in the last five minutes. I thought we did a nice job coming right back with a chance to win at the end. It was a really good college basketball game."

Lee Messier (Narragansett, R.I.) netted nine points. Freshman Tyler Rowe (East Hartford, Conn.) dished out eight assists for the Camels.
