NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomore Mairead Hynes (Mahopac, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 25 points to lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 93-65 victory against Western Connecticut State University at Luce Field House Thursday night.

The Camels remain perfect in the early season with a record of 5-0 while the Colonials fell to 3-3 with the setback.

Hynes was 10-for-14 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. She added four rebounds in 25 minutes of work. Senior Amelia King (San Francisco, Calif.) and junior Liz Malman (Mendham, N.J.) chipped in with 12 points each.  King was 6-for-10 from the field while Malman finished 5-for-6 from the floor. First year guard Natalia Baum (West Springfield, Mass.) scored 11 points (4-for-6) while classmate Kylie Caouette (Ashburnham, Mass.) reached double-figures with 10.

Payton Ouimette (Medfield, Mass.) hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds for the hosts. Jenna Lovett (Tolland, Conn.) finished with seven points and five boards for the hosts.

"We are thrilled with such a complete team effort tonight against a talented and well-coached Western Connecticut squad," Connecticut College Head Women's Basketball Coach Brian Wilson said.  "We got off to a great start on both ends of the floor early in the first quarter and really set the tone for the rest of the game.  Our staff was proud of the fact that our energy and intensity stayed at a high level for the duration of the game."

"Mairead and Amelia both gave us extremely effective minutes in the paint tonight," Coach Wilson added.  "It was nice having Mairead back in the lineup after her elbow injury - she is such a dynamic player for us.  And Amelia really simplified her game tonight by catching the ball deep and going right at the rim.  We knew we had an advantage up front and I thought our team did a wonderful job of executing our game plan."

"Kylie played the best game of her young career," Coach Wilson asserted.  "She got everyone involved on the offensive end and really did a nice job of penetrating and reading the defense to find open teammates.  She has had a solid week of practice and we can see that she is figuring out how to play the point guard position at the college level."

The Camels shot 58% from the field (39-for-67) and were 12-for-15 at the charity stripe.

Western Connecticut State University junior guard Emily Dobson of Westerly, R.I. had an impressive homecoming for the visitors, finishing with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals. Kerri Stolle (Warren, Conn.) added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes of work off the bench.

The Camels opened the game on 25-5 run and led 27-10 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Hynes had 17 of her 25 in the first half. The sophomore All-Region forward closed out the half by collecting an offensive rebound and putting back a field goal with 1:23 remaining to put the Camels on top 50-23 at the break.

Give WCSU credit. The visitors played much better in the second stanza, scoring 42 points in the half and 29 in the fourth quarter, but the Camels were easily able to hold on for the 93-65 win.
