Connecticut College 94, USJ 51 Ouimette Posts Double-Double, Seven Camels Reach Double Figures

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Seven Connecticut College women's basketball players scored in double-figures Saturday in a 94-51 victory against the University of Saint Joseph at Luce Field House.

The Camels remain perfect with an unblemished record of 6-0 while the Blue Jays fell to 0-8 with the setback.

Sophomore Mairead Hynes (Mahopac, N.Y.) poured in 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in a perfect shooting performance (7-for-7).  Senior Amelia King (San Francisco, Calif.) and junior Liz Malman (Mendham, N.J.) scored 12 points each. King hauled in eight rebounds and was 5-for-9 from the floor while Malman posted six rebounds, five assists and five steals in a terrific all around effort.

Senior captain Willa McKinley (Pictured, Westport, N.Y.), Natalia Baum (West Springfield, Mass.) and Payton Ouimette (Medfield, Mass.) all finished with 11 points. McKinley added three rebounds, Baum had six boards and Ouimette finished with a game-high 12 rebounds and four assists en route to a double-double for the hosts.

Rookie point guard Kylie Caouette (Ashburnham, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists for Connecticut College.  Jenna Lovett (Tolland, Conn.) added eight points and three rebounds for the winning side.

Connecticut College owned a 64-to-33 advantage on the backboards and used that edge to out-score the Blue Jays by 17-to-9 on the foul line.

The University of Saint Joseph sophomore forward Kayla Guest (Newington, Conn.) poured in a game-high 15 points and added four rebounds, three steals and two assists to lead the visitors. Senior guard Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) contributed with 10 points and two rebounds and was 4-for-7 from the field.  Carlee Putnam of Niantic, Conn. chipped in with nine points in her return to the shoreline corridor

Elisha Pertillar (Windsor, Conn.) hauled in seven rebounds for the visitors.

The Camels raced out to a 26-8 lead after one quarter. With 5:50 to play in the half, Hynes collected a steal and led Ouimette in for a hoop in transition and one more at the line to vault the Camels out to a 38-16 advantage.

Moments later, King converted an offensive rebound into easy points to make it a 42-18 game. The Camels carried a 42-21 lead into the break.

The Camels continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring USJ 24-18 before closing out the game by holding a 28-12 advantage in the fourth to close out the 94-51 victory.
