Connecticut College 58, Hamilton College 52 Cresencia, Smith Lead Camels to Victory on Senior Saturday

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Connecticut College women's basketball team ended the game with a 6-0 run to hold off a pesky Hamilton College squad in a 58-52 triumph at Luce Field House Saturday.

The Camels improved their record to 16-8 with a 6-4 mark in conference play. They have locked up the #5 seed in the 2015 NESCAC Championship and will visit #4 Williams College next Saturday in a quarterfinal match up in Western Massachusetts.

The Continentals fall to 12-11 with a 3-7 record in conference action but will certainly pose a challenge to their first round opponent in next week's quarterfinal round if they play as tough as they did today. Their opponent has yet to be determined.

Freshman Mairead Hynes (Mahopac, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 23 points with 11 rebounds to lead the Camels in the post.  Senior Carlee Smith (Willimantic, Conn.) finished with nine points and six assists for the hosts. Smith has amassed 361 assists in her career to rank fourth on the program's all-time list.

Smith's classmate Kaitlyn Cresencia (New Providence, N.J.) scored all five of her points on the foul line while adding two assists and one steal that proved to be the biggest play of the day.

Lauren Getman (Manlius, N.Y.) dumped in 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the visitors, connecting on 6-of-12 shots from the field and was 2-for-3 from beyond the arch.

Sophomore Theresa Salud (Morgnaville, N.J.) and rookie guard Samantha Srinivassan (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) both had eight points in the contest. Salud was 2-for-3 from long distance and had three assists for the visitors while Srinivassan connected on 4-of-6 shots from the floor.

Srinivassan made a nice move to the hoop to bank in a runner with 2:07 remaining that put Hamilton on top 49-48.

Hynes knotted the game up at 49 apiece by netting a free throw with 1:48 to play.  Hamilton tried to make an entry feed to the post with a chance to take the lead but Cresencia stepped into the passing lane and got a piece of the ball to induce the steal and turnover and was fouled in the process.

After Cresencia knocked down the freebies to put the hosts back on top 51-49,  Getman responded with a clutch three from the left side of the arch with 49.6 seconds left to put Hamilton back out in front 52-51.

However, the Camels answered back when Hynes made a nice spin move in the lane to kiss one of the glass that put Connecticut College back on top 53-52.

The Camels extended their lead to 54-52 when Smith netted one of two shots on the line with 16 seconds left.

On the ensuing inbounding possession, Smith was able to intercept a baseball toss pass and was then fouled.  The senior converted on the two free throws and the Camels were able to hold on for the 58-52 triumph.
