#2 Amherst College 72, Connecticut College 61 Hynes Tallies 16 Points, Eight Rebounds for Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Hannah Hackley (Westford, Mass.) poured in a game-high 27 points and had 10 rebounds to lead undefeated and second ranked Amherst College (15-0, 3-0 NESCAC) to a 72-61 victory at Connecticut College Saturday.

Hackley was 9-for-17 from the field and 6-for-7 at the foul line.  Marley Giddins (Irvington, N.Y.) netted 20 points and hauled in seven rebounds, connecting on 9-of-12 shots from the floor for the victors. Jaimie Renner (Newton, Mass.) finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the winning side.

Sophomore Mairead Hyens (Mahopac, N.Y.) led the Camels with 16 points and eight rebounds in the setback. Connecticut College junior Liz Malman (Mendham, N.J.) finished with 12 points in the loss for the hosts. Kylie Caouette (Ashburnham, Mass.) reached double figures with 10 points.  Payton Ouimette (Medfield, Mass.) contributed with eight points and six rebounds.

Amherst took a 20-15 lead after one quarter and out-scored the Camels 24-11 in the second quarter to take a 44-26 lead into the half.  The visitors led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter. But Hynes pulled the Camels to within 58-49 with a hoop at the 9:55 mark of the fourth quarter to close out a 23-9 run for the hosts. 

However, Ali Doswell (Richmond, Va.) assisted Hackley for a hoop and one at the line to push Amherst's lead back to 64-51 with 6:26 to go and the visitors were able to hold on for the 72-61 victory.
