Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Mairead Hynes (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help lead the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 72-56 victory over Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday evening at the Charles B. Luce Field House.

Connecticut College got a 3-pointer from sophomore Ashley Howe (Saco, Maine) on its first possession and led from wire-to-wire. Junior Margaret Corcoran (Milton, Mass.) found freshman Casey Walsh (Phoenixville, Pa.) for a trifecta to make it 17-12 at the end of the first quarter, and junior Caroline Pangallo (Fairfield, Conn.) connected from downtown to extend the lead to twin figures at 34-23 with under two minutes remaining in the second frame.

The Camels, who led by nine at recess, embarked on a 17-4 run in the third quarter to establish full control. Sophomore Dana Muckstadt (Dover, Mass.) put back a miss to put the hosts ahead by a 51-29 margin, which would prove to be more than enough insurance for the team to run away with the double-digit victory.

In addition to Hynes, Connecticut College (13-6) got strong contributions from Walsh and Howe. Walsh contributed 15 points off the bench, while Howe finished with 10 points, three steals and two blocks. Pangallo added seven points and dished out a team-high five assists.

Eastern Connecticut State (9-11) was paced by Sabrina LeMere's 21-point outburst in the setback. She also registered four assists. Mya Villard notched 12 points along with eight boards, and Diana Wnuk ended the evening with 11 points.

Connecticut College will resume NESCAC action when it visits Trinity on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2:00 p.m.
