No. 12 Tufts Blanks No. 11 Men's Soccer

Box Score

MEDFORD, Mass. – The No. 11 Connecticut College men's soccer team was blanked by No. 12 Tufts, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bello Field.

Tufts (9-2-2, NESCAC 5-1-2) got on the scoreboard when it earned its first corner kick of the contest. Camel junior goalkeeper AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.) punched a loose ball in the air that Travis Van Brewer lofted in and then made an initial save on an ensuing shot by Zach Lane. However, Lane tucked in his own rebound to give the Jumbos a 1-0 advantage just 5:54 into the contest.

Following two additional saves made by Marcucci, the Camels earned their first major scoring opportunity in the 20th minute on a play which started with senior Anthony Aquadro (Northampton, Mass.) driving down the left sideline. Aquadro found junior Liam Noonan (Malibu, Calif.) for a cross inside the box, but a back-heel shot by sophomore MT Tshuma (Magwegwe, Zimbabwe) went wide right of the goal in the 19th minute.

Even though the Camels went into attack mode during the second half and earned corner kicks as well as more shot attempts, they were unable to produce the equalizer. Joe Braun eventually headed home a short cross from Derek Enge, and the Jumbos earned a very important conference victory which will likely have postseason implications.

Will Harned earned the victory between the posts by only having to make one stop for Tufts, which had a 14-9 advantage in total shots. Camel netminder Marcucci suffered the loss after making five saves.

Connecticut College (7-3-2, NESCAC 4-2-2) returns home to place its final non-conference match of the season when it next hosts Rhode Island College on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
