ERIE, Pa. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team concluded its season with a 9-8 loss to rival Washington & Jefferson in the fifth-place game of the MAWPC-West Championships at Gannon's David M. Hallman Aquatics Center on Sunday afternoon.
Connecticut College scored the first three goals of the game by having three different players find the back of the net and also had an 8-6 advantage through three quarters of play. However, the Presidents rallied by outscoring the Camels, 3-0, in the final frame to escape with the win. Ryan Bannon tied the game with 6:59 left and then scored again at the 2:55 mark to complete the rally.
The Camels' Arturo Freitas (Weston, Fla.) led the team in scoring again by tallying two goals and an assist. He also recorded three steals and finished the weekend with 13 goals to go along with two helpers. Freshman Sam Guy (Portland, Ore.) scored twice, while sophomore Lucas Verilli (Evanston, Ill.) and freshman Christian Jacobsen matched a team high with three steals apiece. Junior goalie Tanner Michaelis (Ramona, Calif.) made 13 saves between the posts.
Connecticut College (5-11) graduates four seniors and is slated to return five letterwinners next season.
