Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season to Emmanuel by a 66-48 score on Tuesday evening at Andy Yosinoff Court.
After an evenly played first quarter, the Saints outscored the Camels by a combined 33-16 over the next two frames to take control. A 15-5 run put the hosts ahead 44-25 late in the third, and the lead grew to as many as 25 in the fourth.
Sophomore Claire Gulbin (Wilton, Conn.) knocked down a trifecta to give the Camels a 7-6 advantage with 7:22 to play in the opening quarter, but a good jumper Kayla Weaver which broke a 10-10 tie would give the Saints the lead for good. The closest the Camels came the rest of the way came when sophomore Audrey Shaev (Scarsdale, N.Y.) cut the deficit to one at 17-16 by canning a 3-pointer with 7:45 on the clock in the second.
Emmanuel (2-1) was led by Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, who registered her third consecutive double-double with 17 boards and 10 points. She also ended the game with six assists. Weaver contributed 12 points and three steals, while Caitlin Barker notched 13 points as a reserve.
Gulbin scored a team-leading 11 points and also added four rebounds for the Camels. Freshman Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) had seven points and four rebounds off the bench, and junior Casey Walsh (Phoenixville, Pa.) recorded a team-high three steals.
Connecticut College (2-1) will play its fourth straight road game to open the season when it visits Roger Williams on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
