NEW LONDON, Conn. – Captains Liam Donelan (Milton, Mass.) and Freddy Stokes (Westhampton, Mass.) each found the back of the net in the second half to help lead the No. 23 Connecticut College men's soccer team to a 2-0 triumph on Tuesday afternoon at Freeman Field. First-year mentor Reuben Burk also picked up his first official head coaching victory from the sidelines.

After a scoreless first half which saw Connecticut College outshoot its opponent by a 14-1 margin, the hosts struck twice in a span of 2:36 to take full control on the scoreboard as well. Donelan headed home a corner kick from senior Matt Butera (Westfield, Mass.) to put the Camels on the board in the 52nd minute, and Stokes doubled the margin shortly afterwards by evading a defender and firing the ball to the near post past goalkeeper Seth Strader. Sophomore Augie Djerdjaj (Mahopac, N.Y.), who found Stokes on the right side from the top of the box, was credited with an assist on the play.

Junior netminders AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.) and Chris MacKay (Riverside, Conn.) combined for the shutout in a lopsided match which saw the Camels outshoot the Mariners by a 22-1 margin overall and hold a commanding 8-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Marcucci was credited with the win by seeing 58 minutes of action. Strader was charged with the loss despite making five saves.

Connecticut College (1-0) begins NESCAC action when it travels to Colby on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
