No. 23 Men's Soccer Blanks Colby, 3-0, in NESCAC Opener

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Luke Stoneback (Commerce, Mich.) netted his first career goal and helped anchor a defense which yielded only three shots in leading the No. 23 Connecticut College men's soccer team to a 3-0 triumph over Colby in the NESCAC opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon.

Stoneback put the Camels on the board by heading home a corner kick that came off the foot of senior Matt Butera (Westfield, Mass.) in the 14th minute, and junior Liam Noonan (Calabasas, Calif.) doubled the margin less than five minutes later. Junior Ben Ludwick (Boxborough, Mass.), a Providence transfer, then added insurance as well as his career marker in a Camel uniform by converting a free kick from just outside the box in the 70th.

Junior netminders AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.) and Chris MacKay (Riverside, Conn.) combined for their second straight shutout to begin the 2019 campaign. Marcucci saved the only shot taken on target for the second consecutive match. Colby's Stanley Clarke suffered the setback after stopping four shots.

Connecticut College (2-0, NESCAC 1-0) next visits Endicott on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
