Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team fell to Amherst by a 3-0 score on Friday evening at Orr Rink. The Mammoths ended the Camels' seven-game winning streak by scoring once in the first period and twice in the second.
Connecticut College, which lit the lamp 39 times during the red-hot stretch, had the first major opportunity to score midway through the first when junior Erin Dillon (Hazlet, N.J.) fired a shot on target from the slot, but Amherst netminder Caitlin Walker made a stick save to keep the game scoreless. The Mammoths then responded with 7:34 on the clock by using the entire ice to eventually find Anne Malloy for her fifth tally of the season.
The Camels continued to earn scoring chances in the second and most notably from sophomore Catherine Lawrence (Guilford, Conn.), but Walker held her ground to stop an attempt with her outstretched leg when the forward attempted to sneak the puck past her. Carley Daly then responded at the other end to double the margin by capitalizing on a rebound in the 32nd minute, and Kate Pohl added insurance on a backhanded shot through traffic with 3:37 left.
Walker picked up the victory between the pipes for Amherst (6-3-2, NESCAC 2-2-1) by turning away 28 shots, while Camel sophomore Carly Denora (Verona, N.J.) was tagged with the loss after making 19 saves.
Connecticut College (7-4, NESCAC 2-3) and Amherst will square off again to close out a two-game weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
