Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – The Connecticut College men's basketball team was dealt an 83-50 setback by No. 12 Colby in the NESCAC opener for both schools on Friday evening.
Connecticut College opened the game on a 5-0 run, as freshman Ben McPherron (Weston, Mass.) drilled a 3-pointer and then drove in for a layup following a steal by junior Austin Nwafor (East Hartford, Conn.) on the team's next possession. However, the Mules responded with 24 unanswered points and took off from there. Colby (12-0, NESCAC 1-0) led 46-22 at the break and continued to pad their lead in the second half before coming away with the lopsided win.
Paced by 16-point efforts by Noah Tyson and Sam Jefferson, all five Colby starters eclipsed twin figures in scoring. Alex Dorion added 15 points by draining five shots from beyond the arc, while Matt Hanna finished with 14 points, five assists, and four steals.
McPherron led the way for Connecticut College with 10 points. Juniors Justin Nwafor (East Hartford) and Daniel Draffan (Hamden, Conn.) had eight points, while Nwafor was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and Draffan finished with four boards along with two blocks.
Connecticut College (3-9, NESCAC 0-1) visits Bowdoin tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
