Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a NESCAC contest to Williams by a 64-48 score on Friday evening.
Connecticut College raced out to a 9-2 advantage, as sophomore Claire Gulbin (Wilton, Conn.) dialed up from long distance on the team's first possession before senior Sami Ashton (Clinton, Conn.) capped the early run with a layup. The Ephs then fought back by rattling off eight straight, including five coming from Morgan Dauk, to tie the score by the end of the opening quarter.
The second quarter was tightly contested until the Ephs began pulling away down the stretch. Trailing 27-26, the Ephs ended the half on an 8-2 run and got a jumper from Devin Biesbrock to carry a 34-29 advantage into the break.
Williams (15-5, NESCAC 4-2) maintained a lead throughout a close third quarter. Biesbrock made an acrobatic shot from 15 feet away in the waning seconds to give the Ephs a comfortable nine-point cushion at 46-37 through 30 minutes of action. The strong finish to the third carried over into the fourth, as an 11-0 run over a span of six minutes allowed the hosts to pull away. Emily Chang and Katie Brule combined for nine points during the stretch which the Camels would never recover from.
Connecticut College got a team-leading 14 points from Gulbin. Ashton added 10 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Senior Dana Muckstadt (Dover, Mass.) pulled down nine boards and redirected two shots.
Brule registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for Williams. Maggie Meehan and Chang netted 12 points apiece, while Maddy Mandyck filled the stat sheet with 11 boards, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
