Women's Basketball Falls to Babson in Final Non-Conference Game of the Season

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team fell to Babson by a 70-52 score in the final non-conference game of the season for both teams on Tuesday evening.

Connecticut College took a 5-2 lead, as senior Sami Ashton (Clinton, Conn.) set up classmate Dana Muckstadt (Dover, Mass.) for a jumper and then canned a 3-pointer. However, Babson responded with a 13-2 run that was capped by Jade Perry dialing up from long distance.

The Beavers, who led by a 17-9 score after the first quarter, quickly extended their lead to twin figures early in the second when Megan Bauman converted a layup. The Camels were limited to just 20 percent shooting from the floor during the frame, and Emily Bonifacic made back-to-back layups to give the hosts a 35-19 advantage heading into recess.

Babson (14-7) maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest. Even though the Camels outscored the Beavers by an 18-16 margin in the third and got two early 3-pointers from junior Casey Walsh (Phoenixville, Pa.), the cold shooting in the second quarter combined with the hosts making nearly 60 percent of their shots during the same timeframe would prove to be a difference maker. Katherine Tamulionis extended the margin to 20 points at 61-41 with a free throw at the 5:39 mark, and the Camels never came closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Bonifacic led Babson with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Nicole Hiller contributed 14 points, and Tamulionis had a strong all-around effort with 13 points, six boards, three steals, and two assists.

Ashton paced Connecticut College by scoring a team-leading 11 points to go along with three steals, and sophomore Claire Gulbin (Wilton, Conn.) finished with eight points. Seniors Dana Muckstadt (Dover, Mass.) and Nancy Coulverson (Queens, N.Y.) both grabbed seven rebounds, while Coulverson also blocked four shots.

Connecticut College (7-15), which concluded a seven-game road trip, returns home to play a pivotal NESCAC game with postseason implications against Hamilton on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
