NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team dropped its final match at the CWPA Division III Eastern Championships to Augustana by a 14-8 score on Sunday morning.
The teams played an even first quarter, as senior
Lucas Verrilli (Evanston, Ill.) put the Camels on the scoreboard first at 4:32 before the Vikings responded with two of the next three to make it 2-2 by the end of the frame.
Augustana, however, caught fire by scoring five straight goals in the second to gain control for the remainder of the match. The Camels never came closer than four the rest of the rest of the way.
Verrilli notched a hat trick to pace the Camel offense, while sophomore
Alex Turnquest (Nassau, Bahamas) made a team-leading five stops between the posts in the first quarter. The squad utilized four players in goal, and they combined to make nine saves.
In addition, junior Christian Jacobson (North Palm Beach, Fla.) was named to the all-tournament second team for his efforts as a two-way player.
Connecticut College (1-9), which concluded the tournament with a 1-2 ledger, continues its homestand when it next hosts Brown University on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
