NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team came up short against Iona by an 18-10 score on Saturday morning at Lott Natatorium.
Connecticut College, which recognized seniors
Mike Gertsik (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Lucas Verrilli (Evanston, Ill.) for their contributions prior to the contest, stayed competitive as the teams traded goals throughout the first quarter.
Even though the Camels only found themselves down 6-4 through eight minutes of action, the deeper Gaels regrouped and did not allow the hosts to score in the second. Iona then scored eight times in the third to pull away and eventually win by an eight-goal margin.
Junior
Sam Guy (Portland, Ore.) and Gertsik each scored twice for the Camels, while a group of netminders combined to make 13 saves against their Division I opponent.
Connecticut College (1-11) will next trek to Cambridge, Massachusetts to take on Harvard and MIT on Saturday, Nov. 6.
