Julia Curran (Cumberland, Maine) and senior
Emi Schwab (Cheshire, Conn.), the Connecticut College women's cross country team placed seventh among 23 scoring teams with 207 points at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Harkness Park.
Curran circled the 6,000-meter course in 22:34.2 to finish 11th among 172 runners, while Schwab was not far behind in 17th by hitting the tape in 22:44.5. Both Camels earned all-region laurels for placing among the top 35. Junior
Rachel House (Merrimack, N.H.) was 41st in 23:40.5, and sophomore
Lauren Hino (Berwyn, Pa.) crossed the line 69th in 24:22.8. Sophomore
Caitlin Horgan (Needham, Mass.) completed the team's top five by finishing 71st in 24:35.3.
Led by individual champion Genna Girard, who posted a mark of 21:36, Williams captured the team title with 90 points to earn the region's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. Middlebury finished in the runner-up spot with 99 points, and Amherst was third with 102 points. Smith (134) and Mount Holyoke (139) rounded out the top five in the team standings.
Connecticut College will now wait to see if it will send any of its student-athletes to the NCAA Championships in Louisville. Teams and additional individuals who qualify will be announced tomorrow.
