PRINCETON, N.J. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team concluded its 2021 season with a pair of losses to Iona and MIT at the Northeast Water Polo Conference Championships in Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. The Camels fell to the Gaels 15-7 before coming up short against the Engineers by a 10-3 decision.
Iona 15, Connecticut College 7
Iona scored seven unanswered goals to start the Camels' opening match and led from start to finish. Juniors
Christian Jacobsen (North Palm Beach, Fla.) and
Sam Guy (Portland, Ore.) scored back-to-back goals to chip away at the deficit, but the Gaels would prove to be too much. The margin grew to double digits early in the fourth quarter, and Iona eventually came away with the eight-goal win.
Guy and Jacobsen netted two goals apiece to lead the way for the Camels.
MIT 10, Connecticut College 3
Like previous contests, the Camels found themselves in a quick hole they could not dig themselves out of in their final game of the tournament against MIT. The Engineers rattled off four straight markers to start the game and limited offensive opportunities for their competitors throughout the match.
MIT built up a 10-1 advantage before Jacobsen and senior
Mike Gertsik (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each found the back of the net to seal the final outcome.
Connecticut College (1-16) graduates two seniors and is slated to return more than five letterwinners next season.
