By Logan Kilfoyle '22

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team dropped its second matchup against No. 2 Middlebury College by a 6-0 score at Chip Kenyon Arena on Saturday afternoon.

While Caroline O'Keefe (Winthrop, Mass.) was able to get two early shots off for the Camels, Middlebury (2-0, NESCAC 2-0) dominated on the offensive end for the rest of the game. The Panthers put pressure on the Camel defense early, rattling off 16 shots. Madie Leidt was able to net two goals in the first period, giving Middlebury a strong advantage going into the break.

The Camels weren't able to capitalize on three power play opportunities in the second period, although they were able to get six shots on goal. Middlebury was able to find the back of the net at the 14:22 mark, increasing their lead to a score of 3-0.

The Panthers started the third period on a power play that carried over from the second, although the Camels held them off from capitalizing on it. Connecticut College continued to battle, seeing excellent scoring opportunities from freshman Miyu Miyazski (Chiba, Japan) and sophomore Casey Godfrey (Geneva, Ill). Ultimately, the Panthers sustained their attacking efforts, securing the win with three more goals in the final period.

Connecticut College senior goalie Carly Denora (Verona, N.J.) saved 32 shots for the Camels, while Panther goalie Sophie Merageas had a shutout, saving all 19 shots on goal from the Camels.

Connecticut College (0-2, NESCAC 0-2) will return to Dayton Arena in New London to face Johnson & Wales for its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 3 p.m.
