Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to Division I Holy Cross by a 79-36 score on Monday evening at the Hart Center.
Connecticut College held its own throughout the first quarter and only trailed 19-13 through 10 minutes of action. Senior
Audrey Shaev (Scarsdale, N.Y.) gave the Camels a 5-0 advantage by converting a layup and sinking a 3-pointer, and she then found junior
Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) for a trey to make it 8-4 in favor of the Camels. Madison Demski answered with five straight points to give the Crusaders their first lead with under five minutes on the clock, and the hosts ended the frame on a 15-5 run.
Holy Cross then broke away in the second quarter by outscoring the Camels by a 24-3 margin. Freshman
Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) scored the lone field goal for the visitors before the Crusaders ended the half with 11 unanswered to take a 43-16 advantage into recess.
The Camels were once again competitive in the third with
Aislinn McMahon (Andover, Mass.) leading the charge and were only outscored by three points in the frame following the break. However, the hosts were able to recover with a strong fourth to eventually come away with their second victory of the season.
Oluchi Ozemma led Holy Cross (2-3) with 21 points and four rebounds. She also shot a blistering 9-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-4 at the line. Avery LaBarbera snagged 11 rebounds, while Addisyn Cross contributed six points, six assists, and two steals.
McMahon and Shaev paced Connecticut College in the losing effort by scoring eight points apiece. Shaev also dished out two assists and had a pair of steals.
Connecticut College (1-4) will continue a three-game road trip when it visits Eastern Connecticut State on Sunday at 3 p.m.
