NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore
Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) scored 27 points, including seven straight to start the second half, in leading the Camels to a dominant second half performance and sealing a 76-58 win over The College of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday evening at the Charles B. Luce Fieldhouse.
The Camels got off to a hot start, jumping out to an 11-point advantage halfway into the first period of play and led 27-16 on nine points from
Ben Rice (Hanson, Mass). They played strong defense, forcing multiple turnovers and not allowing the Dolphins to settle into the game. However, a 20-6 run saw the Camels go down by three with just over two minutes left in the half. The Dolphins took a 39-35 lead into the break.
Seven unanswered points from Flynn quickly restored the Camels lead just three minutes into the second half. The Camels paired a strong offensive start with stifling defense, which held the Dolphins scoreless for the opening five minutes of the half.
After back-to-back three pointers from
Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.), Conn jumped out to an 18-point lead, its largest of the game, by outscoring the Dolphins 26-4 in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.
Conn never looked back, led by a strong defensive stand which only allowed 19 points in the entire second half. Three pointers from Flynn and Schainfeld began to fall, paired with strong work down low from
Andrew Hartel (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Rice added a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with three steals to cap off a strong performance from the Camels.
Dan Porcic shot the ball well for the Dolphins, scoring 16 points, including three triples, while grabbing 11 rebounds. The Dolphins, who led at halftime, failed to score and take care of the ball in the second half.
Connecticut College (5-4) will next travel to Brooklyn to face Medgar Evers after a short Winter break on Wednesday, December 29. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
