POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's squash team won both of its matches on Saturday afternoon. The Camels defeated Vassar 6-3 to begin the day and followed the winning performance up with a victory over Haverford by the same score.
Seniors
Lili Vazquez (Chicago, ILL.),
Birgitta Salvesen-Quinn (Cambridge, Mass.), and
Johanile Hurtado (New Haven, Conn.) were all victorious in both of their matches on the day. Vazquez was able to beat both of her opponents from the No.4 position by scores of 3-0, defeating Vassar's Nicole Pihlstrom 11-8, 11-3, and 11-6 and Haverford's Shreya Singh by scores of 11-9, 11-1, and 11-7.
Salvesen-Quinn defeated her opponents by scores of 3-0 and 3-1 from the No. 6 spot, first by taking down Melina Stavropoulos from Vassar by scores of 11-5, 11-4, and 11-0 and next Emi Krishnamurthy of Haverford by scores of 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, and 11-7.
Hurtado, from the No. 5 spot, won both of her matches by scores of 3-0. She defeated Vassar's Olivia Berkson by scores of 11-8, 11-5, and 11-4 while topping Haverford's Catherine Fortin by scores of 11-6, 11-3, and 11-6.
After falling to her opponent in five sets in her first match of the day, sophomore
Rachel Matamoros (New Haven, Conn.) recovered from a two-set deficit to claim victory in her second five-set match of the afternoon against Haverford's Isabelle Johnson, winning by scores of 6-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 from the No. 1 spot.
Connecticut College (2-3, NESCAC 0-2) will return to Connecticut and next travel to Middletown to take on Wesleyan on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
